goldfest //
We had a dream of one day running a festival. A wise man once told us that festival is just a house party which out-grows itself and gradually evolves into whatever it becomes. When we left Bristol to venture south to Totnes in the summer of 2016, we had a leaving party and called it GoldFest; there were live bands in the front room, DJs in the kitchen with decks set up on the oven, and acoustic acts around the fire in the garden. Friends of ours happened to be driving down the country with a PHat sound-system on the same night and offered to make a detour via our place in St. Pauls to bring the noize. With the help of their rig, some blagged festoon lighting, and a couple o' kegs, GOLDFEST was born! In July 2019, we briefly returned to Bristol to host GoldFest MK2 with our gnarly Bristol tribe. This time we rented space and hosted five bands, and also invited local artists to sell their creations. We were hoping that 2020's evolution would be held on a boat, but the world was on pause (and let's face it, Zoom just wasn't gonna cut it!). So who knows, maybe next year!?
We believe that music is community; music brings people together. It's community that make events like GoldFest happen. Community thrives when we see and bring out the GOLD in one other. It's together that we can all make great things. And you don't need to wait to have all the resources to do the big version, just work with with what you've got. Think big, start small, and great things will happen!
